( from listing's site ) -
Spanky Banjo Ukes are built by luthiers Dan Fobert and Phil Morris. Combining Phil's longtime love affair with the ukulele and Dan's creativity and innovative construction techniques, with input from other uke players they have developed an idea for an instrument built in the traditional way but utilizing up to date features. Spanky Banjo Ukes use a longer, wider concert scale length neck for easier play and a synthetic head to eliminate the problems natural skin heads have with changes in humidity. The advanced Renaissance and Fiberskyn head materials produce a mellow natural tone while maintaining plenty of banjo volume and punch.

(from the Kepasa Ukulele web site ) - Reason for Building Ukuleles- I can't
think of a good reason not to build ukuleles! I got bitten by the ukulele bug in early 2004.
One thing lead to another, and I figured if I could play them, I could build them. Easier said
than done.
Thinking Inside the Box- Ukuleles can be a beautiful site to behold. Sometimes
they're even a work of art. But there's even more going on inside the box... the part
you usually don't get to see. All stringed instruments need a support structure to
keep them together. The support comes from internal bracing, kerfed lining,
bridgeplates, thickness of the top and back plates, and any radius that the top and
back may employ. It's actually quite simple to build a ukulele strong enough to not
fall apart under the stress of string tension. But what makes a huge difference in
tone and volume is building a ukulele with enough strength, yet light enough to allow
a healthy amount of volume, resonance, sustain and what we perceive of as good sound
overall up and down the fingerboard. I refer to this as thinking inside the box.
Building Philosophy- Build light, build loud, build often! Kepasa Ukuleles are
designed to have a full and warm tone. I prefer this sound for fingerstyle ukulele
and chord/melody style ukulele. If you prefer a different tone, I can adjust the
building technique to accomodate your sound goals.
I enjoy studying the art of tap-tuning the top and back. Part of this is done by
paying attention to wood thicknesses and strengths for each wood type, and shaping
the braces to get the sound that is the most optimal from each particular ukulele. I
start with a certain plan for each ukulele and I adjust accordingly along the way by
communicating with the ukulele in progress. Sometimes the wood whispers to me...

In 1995 Zac Steimle traveled from the Pacific North West to Ecuador and worked part time with a luthier in Quito and began his fantastical journey into musical instrument building. Later he returned to Cuenca, Ecuador to work in a community health project.
After working in a region that supported many luthiers, Zac discovered one particularly talented luthier that specialized in small stringed instruments. Working closely together they made their first ukulele. This was during a time when the instrument market was being flooded with cheap Chinese knock offs. Thru this experience Zac immediately recognized the uniqueness and quality of an instrument that was made with the traditions and art that had been passed down from generation to generation. A tradition of building an instrument meticulously from start to finish with only hand tools. A tradition of building each instrument to maximize its fullest potential of tonal qualities. This art takes both the skill and the well trained ear of the luthier, a quality that can not be reproduced with machines or on a production line.

There are more than 100 years of experience in every Brüko ukulele.
The tradition of our family business began in 1890, when master luthier Alois Kollitz started producing violins and working up tone woods in Rothau (Sudetenland).
In the 1930s his sons, the brothers Franz and Josef Kollitz, added the production of banjos and ukuleles.
After WWII the company was built up again in Eltersdorf near Erlangen. Since then, thousands of ukuleles bear the brand name "Brüko" (for "Brüder Kollitz" = "Kollitz brothers").

The one-piece bridge provides a very direct transmission of string vibration to the body. The Uke is amplified by a single-coil pickup made by Coil Tec.

Cheng Fa Huang is the founder of Ayers Guitar. In the early 1970s, Taiwan was invaded by the US pop culture. Country, Rock n Roll, & Folk music became the most popular music in Taiwan. Cheng Fa, as a teenager, was interested and attracted to the sound of guitar. With a very determined and focused mind, Cheng Fa decided to enter the guitar industry.
In 1989, Cheng Fa met Vietnam¡¦s most well known Luthier, Tran Ngoc Lam. Together, they decide to start a guitar workshop in Vietnam because of the abundant supply of skillful wood craftsmen, inlay artists, and Luthiers there. In 1989, Emotion Guitars started ;( later becoming Ayers Guitar). Their first guitar shop opened in Saigon, Vietnam. In the beginning, Emotion Guitar made limited classical and steel string guitars for the domestic and Japanese market. Soon, they started to get good reviews from dealers and musicians. In 1996, Ayers Guitar was born. Ayers Guitar expanded the production line and relocated to Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam, into a bigger facility to increase production. This allowed Ayers to meet the large increase in demand. Australian Luthier Gerard Gilet became the consultant to Ayers Guitar at that time to improve production and quality control. Through out the years, Ayers guitar also received input from US & Japanese Luthiers.
