(from artist's site) - Guitar, drums, violin and three voices. That's an oversimplified description of New Orleans' newest musical group, Chappy. The band, headed by guitarist Michael Wagner, combines complex vocal harmonies with intricate instrumentation to achieve a sound that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Wagner, backed up by drummer David Sobel (New Orleans Klezmer Allstars) and violinist Denise Bonis (Zydepunks, Jakarta Skyscraper) creates a sound that mixes elements of folk, pop, blues, bluegrass, and even african guitar. The end result is a sound that is at-once familiar and entirely new.
