TABs - Tablature

My Take on TAB!

Wikipedia states: "An alternate usage of the word "tab" is common on the internet, where it can also refer to conventional chord symbols (for harmony), or note names (for melody)."

This a departure from what has been traditionally known as TAB. There a lot of sites on the internet, especially ukulele sites popping up that claim to be TAB sites. These are mostly sites with the chords and lyrics to songs, with chord diagrams.

For sites listed here I'll stick with the traditional, pre Internet, definition of what TAB is.

Tabulature (or Tabulature) is a form of musical notation, which tells players where to place their fingers on a particular instrument rather than which pitches to play.

Generally speaking, tablature is commonly used by informally trained musicians in folk, popular and rock music.

Trouble with TAB

Lesson Info

TAB, short for tablature is a form of musical notation using numbers and letters on a staff that that corresponds to the number of strings of fretted string instrumen. Theses number tell a player which fret to place their fingers on rather than which pitches to play.

Power Tab Editor

Lesson Info

Power Tab Editor is a tablature authoring tool for the Windows operating system. It is intended to be used to create guitar sheet music, more commonly known to musicians as guitar tablature and bass tablature. (aka guitar tab/bass tab). The program provides the most commonly used symbols in tablature, including chord names, chord diagrams, rhythm slashes, bends, slides, hammer-ons/pull-offs, harmonics and palm muting. A useful piece of software for people who want to learn how to play guitar, and for experienced guitarists who want to transcribe their own music and/or guitar lessons. The software can be used by both acoustic and electric guitar players alike.

Power TAB is for entering TAB and generates the standar music notation for you. It, however doesn't enter this standard music notation using a rhythmic grouping of notes, especially eight note groupings, that a profession musician would of find easy to read.

As great as Dominator's ukulele tabs are. They are damn near impossible to read as a profession musician.

Here is a page on music notation that I put together to help out anyone using Power Tab Editor or any software writing music.
