My Consumer Reports

Here is a page of MY own consumer reports GOOD & BAD.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Consumer: a person who purchases goods and services for personal use. That's Me

On these pages I'll post my experiences with as a consumer. Over the years we all have had experiences with good companies and products, bad companies and products and down right ugly experiences with companies and products.

Having always admired the Consumer Reports magazine and organization, but not always gone by their recommendations. I thought that I'd do my own.

The Good

Here is a start to the brands, companies and products that I WILL buy from agin, have had great customer service and would recommend.

  • Apple Computer - Been an Apple Macintoch user, programmer and fan since 1987. If it wasn't for Apple and HyperCard I don't think I would be into computer or learned to program them as a professional and now as a hobby.
  • Bare Bones Software - A long time user and I always upgrade to the latest version. Been using BBEdit since version 3.0. Eagerly awaiting the next version.
  • Citizens Bank - Great customer service. They have the feel of your small town local bank.
  • Harleysville National Bank - Our local bank and great service and friendly people.
  • Honda - Great quality and reliable cars. And, now with the New Fit, very affordable with great gas mileage. Daughter's Honda Civic did her very well (170,000 hard miles). She now has a 2008 Honda Sport Fit. And we have a 2009 Sport Fits as well.
  • Toyota - Had a secession of two Toyota Tercels when first married that did us very well. Toyota is always one of the top rated cars.

The Bad & Ugly

Here is a start to the brands, companies and products that I WILL NOT buy from agin, have had lousy customer service and would not recommend, even to my enemies.

Plus - I always wanted a forum for post a #*&$ list of people and companies to watch out for. And with CurtSheller.com getting over 15,000 visitors a month. I now have one.

  • Wachovia Bank - lousy service and hidden (small, small print fees). Not the number 1 in customer service that they advertise

  • LaSalle Bank - This is the mortgage company that our mortgage was sold to (2 time) and they are a pain in the a$$ with the reminders. Especially in 30 years we have never been late with ANY payment to anyone. APR-2008 Update, mortgage sold yet again. We'll see how this bank is.

  • Chevy - Mostly a bad experience with a Chevy Citation and Dames Chevy in Pottstown, PA. But enough to not want a Chevy again.

I would love to not have to deal with car dealers and car salesman and just buy a car online and have it delivered or pickup. The less interaction I have with a can salesman the better.

Released with much fanfare in January of 1984, the Macintosh was the first affordable computer to include a Graphical User Interface. It was built around the new Motorola 68000 chip, which was significantly faster than previous processors, running at 8 MHz. The Mac came in a small beige case with a black and white monitor built in. It came with a keyboard and mouse, and had a floppy drive that took 400k 3.5" disks--the first personal computer to do so. It originally sold for $2,495.

BBEdit is a text editor originally developed for Macintosh System Software 6 and now for Mac OS X. It is made by Bare Bones Software. BBEdit is not a word processor, meaning it does not have text formatting or page layout features. BBEdit's audience includes programmers and web designers.

Bare Bones Software also made a free and less-featured version of BBEdit called BBEdit Lite. Bare Bones Software discontinued BBEdit Lite at version 6.1 and replaced it with TextWrangler, which initially cost money (though significantly less than BBEdit), but several years later was released for free. BBEdit itself was available at no charge from its initial release in 1991, but went commercial in May 1993 with the release of version 2.5.

Bare Bones software. My entire site is "hand coded" using BBEdit. I've been using this software since version 3 (1994)

I don't reccommend that you had code you web site like I did. I started hand coding html around 1995 before there where programs like DreamWeaver, GoLive and Flash. But, I do reccommend you keep your site simple, fast loading and easy to find stuff. The last part, find stuff, can be hard as a site grows.
