English
Race Walking

Race walking is known by may forms in english. All a combination, or alone of race and walk. Racewalking, Racewalk, Walk. The Olympics lists the events as simply "Walk". Many people that I pass in training say. "Hey, look at the speed walker.". Rarely "Hey, look at the race walker". Hey, I'm a walker. Just an extermely fast walker.

French
Marche Olympique, Marche Athlétique

From Jean-Francois Aumais and Xavier Neys

German
Gehen or Snell Gehen

In German, it is "Gehen." In none of the languages that I am aware of do they use the word "race." It is called "sports walking," "athletic walking," or, just plain "running." From Bill Penner From "Mail Stella Cashman"

Hebrew

Korean

Norwegian
Gang Kappgang

The short form is the "normal" form used by walkers themselves and in result lists, press (on those rare occasions where the walk event is mentioned) etc. The second, longer, form stresses the competitive part of racewalking with "tävling" meaning competition or "kapp" meaning it's racing... From Bengt Bengtsson

In Spanish Racewalking is named "Marcha atletica" or simply "Marcha" (as most TV commentators do). From Oscar Lodeiro Hermida

The Pan Athlete (Spanish magazine) shows Race Walk as MARCHA although my poster from the World Cup of Walking from Monterray, Mexico shows CAMINATA.

In Brazilian Portuguese: Marcha Atletica From "Mail Stella Cashman"

Caminar De Athletica , not sure of the spelling. It's translated to athletic walking in spanish. From Jeff Salvage

Thanks for visiting and checking out my site!

Content is always being added and updated. So check-in often. Thanks, Curt

P.S. You may think from the look of it that Curt Sheller Publications is a slick, profitable business, but it's actually not (maybe a car payment a month, cheap car). I spend a lot and time money creating the content, lessons and books for this site (a labor of love), so if you dig my content and want to see more of it. I could use your help by spreading the word and maybe buying a book or two if you haven't already, to help defray the cost of running the site. Thanks in advance for your help. This is a labor of love and I'd do it even if I didn't make a lot of money, hey I don't!

You can also make a donation to the lesson-site fund. Button in the sidebar of the site.

If I'm not teaching, I'm working on this site and new lessons, books and goodies.
