Core Chords Level 1, Part 1

Most players struggle with more 4-part, aka "jazz" chords. These 4-part chords find their way into most music styles. This series of lessons based on the chord system from my book A Guide to Advanced Chords for Ukulele and using the format of my book Ukulele Chords - "C" Tuning will get you started on building a Core set of these 4-part chords.

Building the Foundation

Sometimes called a “dominant 7th” chord. The 7th chord provides a great foundation for building more advanced chords. Beyond the basic major and minor chords the 7th chord is typically the first 4-part chord most beginning players know. From the following four 7th chords we can build a core set of chords which include: 7, m7, maj7, dim7, 6, m6, m7b5, 7#5. This nine chords form a core set of chords. Level I comprises of the 7, maj7 and m7 chords.
