Election Ideas

 

Here are some election ideas that would be a good idea to be implemented. Most other countries do this.

  • Automatically registered to vote if a citizen

    Canada does this.

  • Paper ballots. A pencil and paper seems to work pretty well, even in this electronic age.
  • Shortened election season. The 2008 presidential election season has spanned two years and bay all accounts will have cost over hundreds of millions of dollars.

    In January 2007, Federal Election Commission Chairman Michael E. Toner estimated the 2008 race will be a $1 billion election, and that to be taken seriously, a candidate needed to raise at least $100 million by the end of 2007.

  • No private money for elections

    This would even be a good test of how a candidate is going to manage our money.

  • Third Parties. Finally allow third parties the same rights that the other two parties that have dominated the federal elections have had.

Electoral College

The United States is the only current example of an indirectly elected executive president, with an electoral college made up of electors representing the 50 states and one federal district. Each state has a number of electors equivalent to its total Congressional representation (in both houses), with the non-state District of Columbia receiving three electors and other non-state territories having no electors. The electors generally cast their votes according to the winner of the popular vote in their respective states, but are not required by law to do so.
