Now Carring Ko'olau Gold, `Alohi & Manaha Tenor `Ukulele Strings

I'm using a low G set of the `Alohi strings on my main tenor and a high G set of Manaha strings on another tenor and really love these strings. I liked them so much I'm making them available right here on my site.

Regarding A Guide to Blues Chord Progressions for Ukulele A to Z

Many thanks for your speedy shipment of my order, received today - now all I have to do is practise!!! I am a humble Sax player so not used to more than one note at a time but now is the time to learn.

Will order more advanced stuff when I am improved:-)) I'm very impressed by your variations on the blues form (Coltrane sequence for instance). Best Wishes, - Pete Cornish

Welcome to the main site of Curt Sheller and Curt Sheller Publications. A small (me, myself and I) independent, by choice, publishing company catering to the needs of musicians, guitar players and ukulele players worldwide with the resources and information needed to develop as a musician. Curt Sheller Publications was created by Curt Sheller (me) in 1995 and has been on the web since. I have over 40 years of playing experience and I have been involved in private music education for the past 20 years.

Taking advantage of my jazz guitar skills, I began pursuing the potential of the ukulele. Researching the field I saw very little material organized at a level that really worked. I have developed an international reputation as a ukulele expert having written over 30 books on the subject of ukulele and over 10 books on guitar.

"Just browsing over both books, they look fantastic! I'm a guitarist and uke player for over 25 years and was thinking about writing a ukulele book but you've already written what I think are the best, most comprehensive and thorough books I've ever seen for the instrument. I just might end up buying every book you've written and I'll be giving my highest recommendation for your books to my friends and students. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such great books!" - Peter Rhee

"Banjolele," sometimes also spelled "banjelele" or "banjulele" is a generic nickname given to the instrument, which was derived from the 'banjulele-banjo,' introduced by Alvin D. Keech in 1917.

  • Resonator Ukuleles

A resonator ukulele or "resophonic ukulele" is a ukulele whose sound is produced by one or more spun aluminum cones (resonators) instead of the wooden soundboard (ukulele top/face)

NEW Section for Learning Songs

April 18, 2010

Learning songs is what is all about for most players. Here is a NEW Song section of the site with the chords to popular songs.

My site will go a step beyond just showing a "TAB" or the lyrics and chords for most songs. I'll provide a little historical information gathered from the web, links to the lyrics, videos, examples chords to use, solo arrangements and anything that might be relevant to an appreciation and learning a particular song.

Starting with a few songs I've had lying around and will added a lot as times goes on.

Starting with my ukulele songs I've collected and will add some guitar later.

Added a page on How to Remember Songs.

Solo Ukulele Arrangement of Classical Gas added to my solo ukulele TABs

April 17, 2010

Classical Gas Solo Ukulele Arrangement for C Tuning, Low G

This is the classic Mason Williams hit from 1968. This was right in the mist of the British invasion.

The title of the song was originally "Classical Gasoline" but was changed to "Classical Gas" by the music copyist.

On the original recording, Williams plays classical guitar and is accompanied by an orchestral backing. The orchestral arrangements for this song were written by Mike Post, who was also its music producer. It was released in February of 1968 on the album The Mason Williams Phonograph Record. In August 1968 it reached Number 2 on the American charts and went on to sell over a million copies

O‘ahu Chromatic Tuner Available Now!!!

April 15, 2010

O‘ahu Chromatic Tuner -

Designed for all stringed instruments. On the market there are currently a wide variety of clip-on tuners available. The previous Pono P5 tuner was popular, but in today’s competitive market, the great builders and designers at Ko'olau Guitar and Ukulele felt that pricing was too high. Their new O‘ahu Tuner is higher quality, a more compact design, and less expensive.

The LCD display has one easy to see color, and when in tune, the needle points to the center, also displaying three additional lines along with three lines to display an “in tune” mode. Again, fun frills are impressive, but not really necessary. Also, the clip-on bracket is sturdy and durable.

March 24, 2010

orcas-uke-strings.png Orcas Ukulele Strings have been added to the Strings page. There strings are black fluoro carbon strings. I'm testing the low G, tenor set on my tenor Koa Fluke and Ko'olau CS tenor. These seem to have a mellow sounding, which might be perfect my melody and chord jazz arrangements and upcoming recording session.

However they do produce a lot of finger noise and might not be a good choice for recording.
